what are aviation programs?

MCC Aviation programs provide students with the knowledge and skills required to enter the exciting world of professional aviation.

While you earn the Associate of Applied Science degree, you will also earn the FAA ratings required to become a professional pilot. Specifically, the private pilot rating, instrument rating, commercial pilot rating, multi-engine rating (airplane track), and the Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) rating. Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) rating and Multiengine Instructor (MEI) ratings are available. Helicopter flight students will earn the private pilot rating, instrument rating, commercial pilot rating, and the Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) ratings. Program requirements will reflect FAA and industry standards to the greatest extent possible.

Admission Requirements

Aviation Programs are selective admission only. Specific course prerequisites will apply and the program will be constrained by the equipment (aircraft) available to support student learning. There are Federal Aviation Administration (medical) and Department of Homeland Security requirements with which students must comply prior to admission. Please see the below options for additional details on admissions to the aviation programs.

3.33.2.1      好色TV

Enrollment in the Fixed Wing Flight Training (FWT) Program will be limited because of a finite number of available resources within the community, college, and system.

Technical Standards

In order to be considered or to be retained in the program, all students should possess:

I. a current valid FAA Class 2 Medical Certificate;

2. sufficient verbal and non-verbal communication skills (read, write, fluently speak and understand the English language) to interact effectively with individuals (instructors, air traffic controllers, fellow students, etc.);

3. sufficient intellectual and emotional capacity/maturity for effective functioning in flight lab and actual flight training sessions; and

4. a valid Student Pilot's Ce1tificate.

Student Pilot's Certificate

Students applying to FWT must complete an application through the Integrated Airman Certification and Rating Application (IACRA) website or by paper using FAA form 8710-1 and submit it to a Flight Standards District Office (FSDO), an FAA-designated pilot examiner, an airman ce1tification representative associated with a part 141 flight school, or a certificated flight instructor. The authorized individual will process the application and submit the required documents to the Airmen Certification Branch. Once reviewed by Airman Cettification Branch, the student pilot ce1tificate will be mailed to the address provided by the student on the application.

Admissions Committee

The Aviation Selective Admissions Committee (ASAC) will be composed of:

1. FWT Program Coordinator;

2. FWT Faculty Representative/Flight Instructor;

3. FWT Selective Admission recorder; and

4. a Representative from the Aviation Advisory Committee or Student Affairs.

Admission Standards

To be considered, each applicant must:

1. complete KCTCS college's admission application and requirements;

2. follow the selective admission guidelines;

3. have a minimum of2.5 cumulative GPA;

4. attend a pre-admissions conference prior to admission to the program;

5. undertake and pass an FAA Class 2 Medical Examination prior to commencing flight lab training. Note: this is not required for ground school; and

6. be a U.S. Citizen.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requires flight schools to determine the citizenship status for any student, whether U.S. or U.S. Non-Resident, seeking flight training toward the issuance of a recreational pilot, sport pilot, private pilot certificate, instrument rating, or multiengine rating.

U.S. Citizens

Applicants must provide appropriate evidence of citizenship to the program administrator. Evidence of U.S. citizenship must be shown by one of the following: Valid, unexpired U.S. passport, or a government-issued picture ID card and an:

1. original birih certificate of the United States, American Samoa, or Swains Island;

2. original certification of birth abroad with raised seal (Form FS-545 or DS-1350);

Applicants who fail an FAA flight check-ride may re-enroll to repeat that course only once. Failure to secure FAA credentialing on the second attempt will result in a permanent dismissal from the FWT Program.

Students who "stop-out" (leave the program) for more than one academic year will not be readmitted to the program without the permission of the program coordinator

Students who have been admitted into the FWT program and who have not successfully completed the program may be readmitted to the program one time.

Readmission may be limited due to available spots in the program and is not guaranteed.

Transfer

Apply for admission to MCC

A student interested in registering for MCC credit courses, certificates or degrees will begin by completion of the on-line application will expedite your admission process; however, paper applications are also available.

Start by visiting the /admissions/index.aspx to learn the process, programs offered and requirements. Once you apply for admission you will be assigned a student ID number.

Determine how you will pay for college

Certain classes will have flight training and simulator fees attached that are quite expensive. The program qualifies for federal financial aid. Flight fees charged by the college are generally based on the hours required to successfully complete semester objectives and not to any specific level of FAA proficiency. Students who require additional flight, ground, or simulator training may incur costs that exceed the fees advertised in the current academic year catalog in order to gain FAA proficiency for a given rating. The student would be responsible for those additional fees and must fund their student account prior to the commencement of any additional, or add-on training. Alternative loans may be available to cover flight fees beyond the federal financial aid.

Develop a plan for college success

- Organize your life to have time to learn
- Build a degree plan with your advisor
- Tour the MCC Campus and learn where your classes will be located.
- Learn technology used at MCC.
- Learn how to get involved on campus - activities, jobs and clubs

Meet with a program advisor

All first time degree-seeking students are required to talk with an advisor so they can be cleared to register for classes. If you are aviation major, you should talk to Todd Smith at 270-824-8589 before committing to the program so you learn the program specific requirements. This is an expensive major so you must be prepared for the cost of flight training in addition to the normal tuition and charges.

FAA Medical Certificate

Students are required to get an FAA medical certificate before starting the aviation program. Go to for more information.

Student Pilot's Certificate

You must complete an application through the Integrated Airman Certification and Rating Application (IACRA) website or by paper using FAA form 8710-1 and submit it to a Flight Standards District Office (FSDO), an FAA-designated pilot examiner, an airman certification representative associated with a part 141 flight school, or a certificated flight instructor. The authorized individual will process your application and submit the required documents to the Airmen Certification Branch. Once, reviewed by Airman Certification Branch, the student pilot certificate will be mailed to the address provided by you on the application.

TSA Security Requirement

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requires us to verify a student's citizenship status. See the National Aviation Security  information page on this site for more information.
